Beyond Radical Design

"We believe that by speculating more, at all levels of society, and exploring alternative scenarios, reality will become more malleable and, although the future cannot be predicted, we can help set in place today factors that will increase the probability of more desirable futures happening. And equally, factors that may lead to undesirable futures can be spotted early on and addressed or at least limited." I find this point the most interesting. Let's break it down. By theorizing everything and seeking other options, our reality can bend. Even if we don't know what our future holds, we can make guesses on how to better our future. If we create those things for the future and it creates something we don't want, we can easily remedy the situation. This is how designers think. This is how we think. Humans are always improving what we create. Companies, professors, students, and everyone else does this. Clothing is put out and if it doesn't perform well, it's pulled. Professors guess how the year will go and plan accordingly. If some things are undesirable in the lessons, they'll be modified for future use. It's like a push and pull. Another example: a student is guessing how their week will go and finishing homework before the due date to have a desirable future (outcome). It's all about the desirable future. Do things now, rest later. But we're constantly working for the future. It's the point of raising kids. We raise children better than we had in the hopes they raise theirs better. Each new generation will improve life for the next to come. Like I said, it's a push and pull. It's improvement for the future.
